Rolland & Deloris Dewing History Scholarship

Criteria:

Full-time student majoring in History or Social Science, with GPA of 2.5 or an ACT score of 18. Education majors in History or SS do not qualify. Preference will be given to Freshman.  Two $1,000 awards only.


Rolland Dewing was Chair of the Social Science Division, at Chadron State College, and then served as Professor of History. Deloris Dewing taught elementary music in the Chadron Public Schools. Deloris and Rolland were married immediately after their 1956 graduation from Central Washington State College. Rolland earned his Ph. D. from Ball State University in 1967. Among his more noteworthy achievements at CSC Dewing founded the Criminal Justice Department and instituted the Phi Alpha Theta Speakers Series. He also was active in research and publication. His most notable efforts are a book on the second encounter at Wounded Knee and an edited version of the FBI files on Wounded Knee and the American Indian Movement.
